Type a brand. Read the equity register.
The brand on the front of the can is rarely the company that profits from the brand. This tool returns the parent.
Some brands are listed on a stock exchange nine thousand kilometres from the country printed on the lid. Some are owned by private trading houses with no public quarterlies. Some are still owned by the family that founded them in 1853. The Brand Owner Decoder is the operational companion to Field Note III · The Listed Can, the Quiet Owners. Type a brand. The tool returns the ultimate parent, the listing status, the headquarters country, and the acquisition history that led there.

Across all twenty countries mapped in the Global Sardine Standard Map, only four listed companies surface as clean public-company proxies for the canned-sardine industry, namely Thai Union Group on the SET, Century Pacific Food on the PSE, Oceana Group on the JSE, and Unimer Group on the BVC. Beyond those four, the private layer is, by several measures, larger than the public one.
This tool is seeded from the brands documented in Field Note III plus the most globally visible labels cited across the series. Every record carries an evidence-confidence level, namely Strong for audited filings and named acquisitions, Moderate for company disclosures and industry-recap data, Preliminary for unaudited industry estimates.
Sources: Field Note III primary research; audited annual reports of TU (SET), CNPF (PSE), OCE (JSE), UMR (BVC); primary corporate press releases for every acquisition cited; SeafoodSource and Undercurrent News reporting; US Chapter 11 bankruptcy court records for the FCF-Bumble Bee transaction. Currency conversions illustrative at FY-end rates. Last database review: May 2026.
